The country's main capital, Oslo, offers an urban landscape with plenty of people and a wide range of activities. Ekeberg Camping and Bogstad Camping are excellent starting points for an urban start to your holiday.
The journey northward on highway E6 passes through inland Norway, pasts Norway's largest lake, Lake Mjøsa. In the Olympic city of Lillehammer, you will find Lillehammer Camping near the city center and in the north you will find Hunderfossen Camping. The open-air museum Maihaugen, Hunderfossen Family Park, the Olympic Park and Hafjell are attractions that we recommend you to visit in this area.
We continue northward through the traditional Gudbrandsdalen valley following alongside the river Lågen. At Dombås, we turn onto highway E136 which takes us down to Romsdalen. The river Rauma runs down through this narrow, fertile valley, with jutting mountain peaks on all sides. Trollveggen Camping is located in the middle of this mountain kingdom, not far from the famous Trollveggen.
From Åndalsnes "the Alpine town by the fjord," the journey takes us westward on national road RV-63 up Trollstigen, Norway's most famous mountainroad, and follows "The Golden Route" through the spectacular Geiranger region, ending up innermost in the beautiful Geirangerfjord. The ferry trip to Hellesylt is quite an experience in itself. We may also drive across Strynefjellet before arriving at Olden. Here you can stop at Olden Camping, which is an eldorado of deep fjords, high mountains and mighty glaciers. We highly recommend visiting the famous Briksdalsbreen glacier. Magnificent nature is the recurring theme for the trip westward toward the coast.
The route down Fjord Norway, along highway E39 to Bergen, passes through spectacular nature typical of Western Norway and ends up in an open-fjord landscape. There are several accommodation facilities here if you would like to make an extra stop, perhaps camping at a facility facing right out toward the open ocean.
We cross the Sognefjord and arrive in Bergen , the city surrounded by seven mountains. Not far from the city center you can sleep at Bratland Camping, which is located in the countryside and the site is surrounded by majestic mountains as well. At Bryggen in Bergen you will experience a very special atmosphere, among others you have the Fish-market, swarming with life, and of course here you can buy fresh fish. RV7 catches up with us again through Hardanger. At the estuarine of Hardangerfjorden, we find Sæbø Camping, surrounded by high mountains and with Måbødalen and the famous Vøringsfossen near by. Hardanger Natursenter is also worth a visit.
From there the journey goes over Hardangervidda, the biggest mountain plateau in Northern Europe, and down Hallingdalen. The landscape change character again and the road to Oslo goes through the open and lush scenery of Østlandet.
